The market today is filled with many types of tiles that make decision making on what tiles to choose for the right place a daunting task. From porcelain to quartz, and even glass tiles, there is just so much to choose from. To help you narrow down your choices, the following are a few tips that can come in handy when shopping for floor tiles.

Consider the floor tile colour

When choosing floor tiles, the aim should be coming up with a colour scheme that complements that of the room and even the wall tiles. In this sense, you need to consider the colour of the furniture in the room, the worktops, and even cupboards. If the room already has a colour scheme, you have to select floor tiles that match. However, you need to remember that while you might change the items in your room, later on, floor tiles will last for many years. It is, therefore, best to work with neutral colours.

Consider size and patterns

Tiles come in different patterns and dimensions. The size of your floor will determine how many tiles you will require for the job. Depending on your taste, you can choose large or small tiles. Large tiles can create an illusion of a big space and are therefore appropriate for smaller rooms. You can also accentuate the style of your home by choosing the right tile theme.

Consider how you'll use them

Tiles can serve different purposes in and around the home; what will work best in the bathroom might be appropriate for outdoors.  For example, porcelain tiles are stronger than say ceramic tiles. You would, therefore, rather work with porcelain for your outdoors or high traffic areas. Ceramic tiles would work best in the kitchen. Wet rooms such as bathrooms should have a gradient to the drain so that water does not clog the tiles. Glass mosaic or glazed porcelain are strong enough for this purpose.

Finally, plan and budget the right number of tiles that you will need for the job. It is better to purchase at least 5 to 10 percent more tiles than you need. It will cater for breakages and cuts. Some companies will even offer a refund on any unused boxes of tiles. By understanding the colours that will blend well with your rooms and considering the purpose of the tiles, you will be able to make an informed decision before you purchase your tiles.
